About Rainbow Youth Services
RainbowYouth Services is a non-profit organization under the 501 (c)(3) of O.L.I.O. and its current mission includes the expansion of programs from regional to national and international levels.
The mission of Rainbow Youth Services is to respond to the service needs of individuals and families by empowering youth through educational, recreational, and life skill activities which are then channeled into community development programs.
Rainbow Youth Services believes that the potential within all children needs to be realized and emphasized. Programs developed to encourage youth to be responsible and show leadership within their community continue to be successful in achieving this goal.
The future of communities depends on the development of their youth. It is the children who will carry on traditional living standards and most importantly, enhance the standard of living. The violent climate that school districts are currently facing in the Capital Region raises concerns on how youth will advance Capital Region communities. To enhance the development of their neighborhoods, it is imperative for communities to foster programs that cultivate responsible youths and there by benefit from the large population of contributing citizens. Community Centers such as Rainbow Youth Services have successfully empowered youths to become upstanding citizens by providing programs that focus on educational, recreational, and life skills development. The approach of Rainbow Youth Services is UNIQUE because the programs offer the joy of self-concept development in the form of tangible results/products/credentials. Below are the significant programs that Rainbow Youth Services have implemented thus far and the new programs envisioned which will be implemented upon available funding
- Education
As standards in the work sector become increasingly competitive, it is important that the children focus on increasing their education Advanced Degree programs and Vocational Certifications in order to provide for youth to enhance income, establish competitive credentials, and open doors to opportunities. Rainbow Youth Services has provided training thus far in the areas of 1.) Computers-Repair, Programming, and Website Design; 2.) Vocational Trades and Business; and 3.) A Tutoring Program that has helped youth with GED/High School, College or Vocational Certification. The accomplishments/successes to the present date are chronicled in the attachments to this proposal.
- Life Skills
Youth experiencing poverty and broken families do not have adequate forums to learn life skills necessary to advance in a competitive society. In understanding the value and significance of these skills in the development of self-concept and the cultivation of stable families, Rainbow Youth Services offers currently provides learning opportunities in the areas of Health, Relationships, and Employment.
- Recreational
To provide proactive opportunities that will help to serve as a deterrent to criminal activity, Rainbow Youth Services provides recreational programs. These activities will foster an environment to enhance the individual's confidence and instill the idea of teamwork. The current activities include Male and Female AAU Basketball; 15-Love Tennis ; Rowing Team ; and the Double Dutch Program.
